Thomas Jefferson Essays -- essays research papers
Thomas Jefferson was born on April 13, 1743 on his familyââ¬â¢s plantation in Shadwell, Virginia. The third of six children his parents raised him modestly and his father schooled him to be a gentleman. The young Jefferson suffered an emotional shock, when at the age of 14 his father Peter Jefferson died. The young Jefferson was the first male of the family and so he received the bulk of his fatherââ¬â¢s assets, leaving him with a sizable fortune. He received his early education along with his sisters and cousins near the family farm, and later was sent away to be tutored by a professional teacher in foreign languages and more advanced sciences and math. Beginning in 1760 Jefferson began attending the College of William and Mary in Williamsburg, Virginia. While there he began studying such enlightenment thinkers as Sir Francis Bacon, Sir Isaac Newton, Jean Jacques Rousseau, and John Locke. His admiration for these men became even greater as he began to make his way in life. Once he finished his college education Jefferson decided he wanted to pursue a career in law. To achieve this he began studying for the bar exam under a practicing lawyer George Wythe. After completeing his studies he began establishing a law practice out of his home in Shadwell. Then in 1768 he was elected to the Virginia House of Burgesses where from the very start he made his presence known. If first proposal to the body was to establish procedures for the emancipation of slaves, an idea quickly shot down. He remained a member of the house until its dissolution in 1774 by the colonyââ¬â¢s British Governor Dunmore. The same year plans were made to hold a continental congress of all the colonies. In preperation for this meeting Jefferson wrote an essay called A Summary of the Rights of British Americans, in which he voiced his thoughts on the rights of men. Due to illness he was unable to attend this meeting, but its widespread publishing lead to his nomination to the second Continental congress. During the 1776 meeting of the second Continental Congress Jefferson wrote one of the most famous documents in American history, the Declaration of Independence. This document would become the basis for the writing of the Articles of Conferderation and eventually the United States Constitution. Another document written by Jefferson that would become an integral part of the federal Constitution would be ... ...umed the office of vice-president. Jeffersonââ¬â¢s first act as president was to tell Secretary of State James Madison to withhold the midnight appointment of William Marbury to the office of Justice of the Peace of the District of Columbia. Marbury sued for the appointment President Adams had given him and Chief Justice John Marshall ruled in his favor. The case Marbury vs. Madison set the precedent of the courts right to judicial review of the other branches of government. Jefferson went against his belief in strict Constitutional interpretation several times during office as president, the first time was when he authorized the Louisiana Purchase in 1803. Though the power to purchase the land was not given to him as president in the Constitution he went ahead with it because he felt that it was in the best interest of the nation. He went against his beliefs two other times when he went along with the 1804 impeachments of Federal district judge John Pickering and Supreme court judge Samuel Chase. The constitution states that ââ¬Å"treason, bribery, or other high crimes or misdemeanorsâ⬠must be committed to warrant this, but both men were impeached by the Senate due to erratic behavior.

My Terror
My ambition of life Introduction:- NO one in this world is without dreams in life. Everyone has is own dream in Fife. Many have an aspiration to be a rich one or to become business tycoon. Some person have a dream of becoming leader,application & social reformers. Their are others who has a crazy for becoming poets,writers & novelists. While most of us generally have a desire of becoming engineers,doctors,scientist of a great repute. But some have a opinion to be commissioned officers in the Armed forces.There are fewer & fewer people who are happy-goââ¬âluckyâ⬠by nature & have no clear cut aim in their life Importance:-AS for myself, I don ââ¬Ët have very ambitious aims in my life. ââ¬Ë don ââ¬Ët wish to became a mill owner or a multi-millionaire. The soul object of my life is to lead a life of simplicity ; oddness devoted to the service of humanity. The life of a professional leader ; a plantation leader does not interest me because most of such persons are grown parasites in the society. Our society also dislike ARISTOTLE said ââ¬Å"THESE applications are Just like ââ¬Å"demagoguesâ⬠mean a cruel & black bird like vultures have preying eyes.Different aims:- I born of middle class parent's. From the very begging I have been passing through the struggles of life . 1 have cut throat competition in most of the profession . Let's consequences have been far reaching. People demoralized. Examples are not wanting when we can find every engineers excepting very big bribes,lawyers saving guilty persons or murderers & doctors are demanding money from patients at crucial stages of surgical operations Choice of profession:- Then what do I want to be?Indeed,from the core of my heart,' wish to become a teacher. The motto of this life s simple living & high thinking,which inspire me to take up this profession. The noble ideals of the teacher in the ancient time or before me. As I am fully aware of difficulties & hardship off teacher life. ââ¬Ë kn ow that a teachers are on the bleating graph of poverty in the past,But I now if he is not a wealthy person then he is not depicted to anyone . Elf he has not luxurious life then on the other he can easily can meet out the basic needs of life.A teacher is always busy in correcting answer book or exercise books of students but along with this as a result of continuous research n education, the role of the teacher is only of a supervisor & a facilitator in the innovation methodologies & strategies. Len short there are no stirring event in his life. Teacher is a bank of respect & prestige in every nook & corner of the street in the shape of student. ââ¬Ëspite of these hardships,' don ââ¬Ët have any aim but only to become a teacher. ââ¬Ë have my own reasons & considerations for this choice. From my childhood,' have developed of a love for young children's .To me, they are delicate & beautiful like the petal of a flower. Feel that as a teacher, I can help the students in widenin g their outlook by giving them a treasury of knowledge . 1 will have the satisfaction of doing valuable service to country by producing egoistic citizens. Moreover,the company of the young children's can even help me in remaining young & fresh I thought & out-look. Motivation for ââ¬ÅA Rose for Emilyââ¬Â Essay
Motivation for ââ¬Å"A Rose for Emilyâ⬠It is in the human nature to want to have a sense of belonging and to be a part of something bigger, making it difficult to maintain moral decisions. The main character in William Faulknerââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"A Rose for Emilyâ⬠faces moral challenges created by the pressure of wanting to conform to the townââ¬â¢s expectations while still trying to maintain a sense of independence, which ultimately leads up to the motivation to murder of Homer Barron. By holding high expectations, directly interfering in Emilyââ¬â¢s life and relationship, and the constant widespread gossip from the Townspeople of Jefferson are the main motivation for the murder of Homer Barron. Emily Grierson, being the last Southern lady of the Antebellum South was held at a high expectation by the townspeople of Jefferson (Faulkner 160). As Thomas Dilworth points out, the townspeople had wanted to preserve the values of the old south through the embodiment of Emily (252).Faulkner even says that, ââ¬Å"Alive, Miss Emily had been a tradition, a duty, and a care: a sort of hereditary obligation upon the town (156).â⬠He is implying that the townââ¬â¢s people see that Emily has this hereditary duty to the town. These high expectations were carried over into Miss Emilyââ¬â¢s personal sexual needs where she is expected to keep the appearance of a pure southern lady that can be compared to that of Eve from the Garden of Eden (Dilworth 253). Although Emily does rebel against the town for two years by dating a blue-collar construction worker and Yankee Homer Barron in attempt to not conform to the Jefferson townspeopleââ¬â¢s expectations of a southern lady (Dilworth 251).The townââ¬â¢s hard to live up to standards are a part of the motivational reasoning that leads up to Emily murdering Homer and keeping his body in a necrophiliac relationship. Being raised by her father, Emily has always known about the expectations that were to be met, because of who her family is; however, this means that Emilyââ¬â¢s personal life has always had interference. When her father was still alive Emily was not to be with any man because, ââ¬Å"None of the young men were quite good enough for Miss Emily and such (Faulkner 158),â⬠and when her father finally passed away the towns people began to take his place in interfering in Emilyââ¬â¢s life. After Emily has been dating Homer for a little over a year the town begins to suspect the coupleââ¬â¢s relationship to be scandalous, assuming adults in their thirties would engage in sexual acts, and leads the town to take actions into their own hands by sending the ntownââ¬â¢s Baptist priest to talk to Episcopal Emily about her actions. The talk with Emily was unsuccessful, causing the town to then call in Emilyââ¬â¢s out of state cousins to watch over her. Emily in turn responds b y going out into town to buy menââ¬â¢s clothing and toiletries, which in turn leads the town and Emilyââ¬â¢s cousins that she is married or is going to soon marry Homer (Faulkner 161-162). The direct interference in Emilyââ¬â¢s life is the townspeople blatantly displaying that they no longer have a tolerance for her relationship with Homer, and show a blind eye when Emily purchases arsenic when out in town buying the menââ¬â¢s toiletries and clothing. Once the cousins believe that Emily is to marry Homer they leave, but that does not change the fact that the townspeople directly interfered with Emilyââ¬â¢s personal affairs and still hold Emily in high standards. This means that even if Emily were to marry Homer the townspeople would still gossip on how Homer is a poor moral example for the Jefferson youth. Gossip was a constant reminder to Emily of the expectations required of her and the interference to remind her of this. Gossip is also consistently expressed throughout Faulknerââ¬â¢s story. A direct reference of gossip comes from Faulknerââ¬â¢s story, ââ¬Å"When her father died, it got about that the house was all that was left to herâ⬠(Faulkner 159). ââ¬Å"It got aboutâ⬠is an explicit reference to gossip. Also critic James M. Wallace implies that the gossip throughout the story told by the narratorââ¬â¢s had a wide knowledge of events that went on in the story (106). the narrator relates three separat e discussions between Judge Stevens and one woman and two men regarding the smell coming from Emilyââ¬â¢s property. The narrator knows the details of the conversations well enough to quote Judge Stevensââ¬â¢s directly. ââ¬Å"ââ¬ËDammit sir,ââ¬â¢ Judge Stevens said, ââ¬Ëwill you accuse a lady to her face of smelling bad?ââ¬â¢Ã¢â¬ (Faulkner 158). Also earlier when Emily purchased arsenic, ââ¬Å"So the next day we all said, ââ¬Å"ââ¬â¢She will kill herselfââ¬â¢; and we said it would be the best thingâ⬠(Faulkner 161). ââ¬Å"and we said it would be for the best thing,â⬠shows how the town is judgmental and takes Emilyââ¬â¢s ââ¬Å"fallingâ⬠as poor moral to the town. The gossip always being a constant factor to Emily is the main reason how the town was able to motivate Emily to motivate Homer. She knew that she would not be able to have her personal needs above the townââ¬â¢s expectations to hold her on a pedestal to preserve the south. The expectations, interference and insistent gossip from the town were the main motivation forà Emily to kill Homer. Emily was not able to keep up the faà §ade of being the Southern lady that the town of Jefferson wanted while still upholding her own sexual needs of a grown woman. This leads her to the ultimate decision to murder Homer Barron and keep his body for her own necrophiliac relationship to be able to put the town at ease and calm her own conscience. The murder and necrophilia is a direct result of the townââ¬â¢s expectation, interference, and gossip and are the motivating factors needed for Emily to finally snap.
